Rain rain go away…

Hello Families!

We have been busy this week with November’s exciting curriculum! We began our study on North America. Ms. Jessie shared fun stories of her time growing up in Mexico as a little girl. She brought in clay pots, a beautiful hand sewn dress, and sugar skulls which Ms. Jessie told us they make around the time of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead, a time to celebrate loved ones that have passed). She introduced us to her favorite artist, Frida Khalo, and showed us pictures of her art. Ms. Julie spoke about her time growing up in Costa Rica. She brought in lots of colorful clothing, artifacts, and music to share. We saw a video about the animals, culture and landscape in Costa Rica.

In P1 we have talked about pictographs, plants and animals of the desert. This week our Kindergartners went to visit Red Rock Canyon. We are so excited to hear about the things they discovered and desert plants and/or animals they saw! We are excited to see our older friends give lessons to the young ones. This opportunity teaches so many positive things to the children. We hope you enjoy some of the lovely photos we have taken of them working together.

We hope everyone has seen our new garden boxes in the front courtyard. We will be planting in our box this Friday, 11/22.

Don’t forget about the Holiday Bizarre tomorrow from 12-5pm in the multi-purpose room to help support the local community.

Reminder: P1 will be dismissed at 11:15am next Wednesday, November 27th to begin our Thanksgiving Holiday. School will be closed the following Thursday 11/28 and Friday 11/29.

Enjoy your long, holiday weekend, Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Ms. Jessie, Ms. Brianna, Ms. Julie

Hello Families! P1 would like to give one more big thank you to all the families that helped make our first World History day a success. The room was transformed so well into the Paleozoic Era, everyone had a great time making trilobite fossil replicas, erupting volcanoes, wrapping each other up as mummies, and some of our friends even ate crickets! We look forward to another great day next year.

Please read the following reminders:

11/8 NO SCHOOL Teacher In-Service Day (tomorrow)

11/11 NO SCHOOL Veteran’s Day (Monday)

11/12 Reptile Discovery Assembly (Tuesday)

11/21 Picture re-takes (Thursday)

I would like to invite our afternoon friends to attend our Reptile Discovery Assembly Tuesday, November 12th at 10:00 am in the Multipurpose Room.

Our assembly for the African Drum and Dancers will be rescheduled for January.

Please remember to label your child’s coat/jacket/sweater with first name or initials on a tag. These items get easily misplaced or confused with another child’s when they have a duplicate. Also the outdoor classroom does not get sun until the afternoon, if your child would like to go out with Ms. Val they need a jacket in the morning. We are also promoting independence during this transition of seasons, please assist but allow your child to dress and put on their own winter attire.

We finished our unit on Anatomy with a guest from P2 who came in to show us real x-rays of bones. We really enjoyed it! Thank you for your time Dr. Montes.

For the month of November we have exciting units about the continent we live on, North America; the animals, biomes, famous landmarks, and much more. We will take a look at reptiles, deserts, the people, plants and animals that live in the Mojave Desert. And of course P1 will talk about what we are thankful for and how we can be kind to others.

Have a wonderful, long, holiday weekend off. See you Tuesday!
